Welcome to the CMAS AMERICAS Website.
CMAS is the acronym for Confédération Mondiale des Activités Subaquatiques. also known as “The World Underwater Federation”.

If you are looking for the most comprehensive training designed to provide you with everything you need to enjoy the underwater world - you have come to the right place. Scuba Diving is an adventure sport which as all adventure sports needs more than casual readiness. We believe that to maximize your enjoyment of the sport you need to be prepared for its challenges

CMAS is the world’s first
international diver training organization and was founded January 1959* in Monaco by a confederation of fifteen countries, including the United States, to establish an international diver-training standard. Organized under the direction of Jacques-Yves Cousteau the co-founder of the

“Aqualung” and father of the modern sport of scuba diving CMAS has grown to a membership of over one hundred countries. CMAS is headquartered within the International Olympic Committee building in Rome Italy. CMAS AMERICAS' courses are offered by CMAS Instructors, meet CMAS standards and as such are recognized worldwide.

CMAS is organized into three committees Scientific which address underwater sciences, Technical that handles training in recreational scuba diver training and Sports that deals with international competitive sub-aquatic sports. CMAS AMERICAS is involved with the Technical and Scientific Committees.

As a diver driven organization, CMAS takes diver training seriously. The greatest emphasis is placed on safety, diver competence and marine conservation. CMAS programs provide quality training and mentoring at both the diver and instructor levels. The clarity and simplicity of the CMAS Three Star training system is world reknown. It is the original international diver training standard, free of pretentious titles and bloated marketing hype.

CMAS AMERICAS Mission

Our mission is to develop and promote CMAS diving programs in the US, Central America, the Caribbean and other adjacent areas not currently serviced by a CMAS Federation. CMAS programs are based on a system teaching and mentoring that when combined produce divers who are superior in knowledge, skills and abilities. As a result of this comprehensive training, CMAS divers are not only safe and competent in the water, but also more appreciative of the marine environment.

* the organization was formally established on January 10, 1959, nearly four months after a preliminary session conducted in Brussels in September, 1958. As the representative for Monaco, the iconic Captain Jacques Cousteau presided over the plenary meeting of the 15 national delegations that founded CMAS. The United States was one of the fifteen.
